UNS R-Alpha Lipoic Acid 60 caps - powerful antioxidant

R-ALA, which is R-alpha-lipoic acid, is the purest, most biologically active form of alpha-lipoic acid. Only the R-enantiomer occurs in nature — it is this form that is utilized by the human body. The product UNS R-Alpha Lipoic Acid 60 caps contains a stabilized, highly bioavailable form of R-ALA, which works significantly more effectively than the traditional ALA racemate available in most supplements. In practice, this means one thing — you receive a substance that works genuinely and brings noticeable effects. Without unnecessary additives and without the inactive S-form, which only lowers the effectiveness of classic ALA.

UNS decided to create a premium product that:

    • contains only the active form,
    • is stabilized,
    • works more effectively at smaller doses,
    • is closer to the natural form of lipoic acid.

This product is for demanding individuals who want real results and expect the highest quality.

    What is alpha-lipoic acid?

Alpha-lipoic acid, or ALA for short, is an organosulfur compound that naturally occurs in every cell of our body. It is absolutely essential for life because it performs two key functions.

Firstly, it is a coenzyme in the mitochondria. Mitochondria are your personal cellular "powerhouses". ALA helps them convert glucose (sugar) into pure energy (ATP). Without it, the entire energy production process slows down, which you may feel as fatigue and lack of vitality.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, ALA is an extremely powerful antioxidant. This is where its uniqueness is revealed. Most antioxidants work either in a water environment (like vitamin C) or a fat environment (like vitamin E). Alpha-lipoic acid is universal – it works in both environments. This means it can protect practically every part of the cell from oxidative stress, from its fatty outer membrane to its watery interior.

What's more, ALA has the unique ability to "recycle" other antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10 and, most importantly, glutathione – your internal, master antioxidant. When these substances are depleted in the fight against free radicals, ALA can restore them to full functionality.

Unfortunately, the amount of ALA produced by the body is small and decreases with age, and obtaining it in therapeutic amounts from the diet (it is mainly found in organ meats and some vegetables, like spinach or broccoli) is practically impossible. This is why so many people turn to supplementation. And this is where the crucial part of our story begins.

    ALA vs R-ALA - what's the difference?

The term "enantiomer" sounds complicated, but the concept is simple. Imagine your hands. They are mirror images of each other, but they are not identical. You cannot put a left glove on your right hand.

It's similar with alpha-lipoic acid. Due to its chemical structure (a chiral carbon atom, if you want the technical detail), it exists in two forms that are mirror images of each other:

    • R-alpha-lipoic acid (R-ALA)
    • S-alpha-lipoic acid (S-ALA)

This difference is absolutely fundamental to your health and the effects of supplementation.

R-alpha-lipoic acid (R-ALA) - the natural and biologically active form

R-alpha-lipoic acid is the form that your body naturally produces. This is the "right glove" for your "right hand". Your cells, enzymes, and receptors are designed to work perfectly with this exact form.

Only R-ALA is fully bioavailable and can be effectively used as a coenzyme in the mitochondria for energy production. It is R-ALA that exhibits the lion's share of the potent antioxidant and metabolic properties that alpha-lipoic acid is known for. Scientific research confirms that it is the R-enantiomer that is responsible for health benefits such as improved insulin sensitivity or protection of nerve cells.

S-alpha-lipoic acid (S-ALA) - the synthetic twin brother

S-alpha-lipoic acid is an unnatural form that does not occur in nature. It is only formed as a byproduct of chemical synthesis in the laboratory when trying to produce R-ALA.

For years, the S-form was considered simply "neutral" or "slightly less active". Today we know it's worse. S-ALA is a ballast for the body. It does not fit the cellular receptors. Worse, there is evidence that it can compete with the active R-ALA form for the same transport pathways into the cell.

Put simply: S-ALA not only doesn't help but can actively hinder the R-ALA form from doing its job. It's like trying to put a left glove on your right hand – it not only doesn't work but also makes it harder to put on the correct one.

Standard ALA supplement: what is a racemic mixture?

Now, the most important part: the vast majority (over 95%) of supplements on the market labeled simply as "Alpha-Lipoic Acid" or "ALA" are a so-called racemic mixture.

This means they contain both forms in equal proportions: 50% active R-ALA and 50% useless (or even harmful) S-ALA.

So, when you buy a standard supplement labeled "ALA 600 mg", you are actually only getting 300 mg of the desired R-ALA form and 300 mg of the synthetic ballast S-ALA. You pay for 600 mg, but your body can utilize at most half, and even that half has to fight for absorption with the other, worthless half.

This leads us to the key solution, which is the UNS product.

    R-ALA - benefits of supplementation

R-ALA significantly limits free radical activity

Every day, your cells are bombarded by free radicals. They arise from stress, pollution, processed food, or even intense physical exertion. This process, called oxidative stress, is like the body "rusting" from the inside. It accelerates aging, leads to inflammation, and damages DNA.

R-ALA is one of the most effective free radical neutralizers. Operating in both water and fat, it protects the entire cell. But its true power lies in regenerating other defenders.

Above all, R-ALA significantly raises glutathione levels. Glutathione is the "king of antioxidants", the most important protective and detoxifying substance in your body. By supporting its production, R-ALA strengthens your entire internal defense shield. This means better protection against toxins, support for the immune system, and a slowing down of aging processes at the cellular level.

Support for glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity

This is one of the best-researched and most important benefits of R-ALA. Many people struggle with blood sugar fluctuations. When you eat a meal, the pancreas releases insulin, which is supposed to "tell" the cells to open up and let in glucose, converting it into energy.

Sometimes, however, the cells become "deaf" to the call of insulin – this phenomenon is called insulin resistance. The sugar then circulates in the blood instead of powering the cells, leading to post-meal fatigue, hunger attacks, and fat accumulation.

R-alpha-lipoic acid acts like a "hearing aid" for your cells. Clinical studies prove that R-ALA mimics the action of insulin and significantly improves the sensitivity of cells to its effect. It helps to "push" glucose from the blood into the cells, where it can be burned as fuel.

    What do you get?

    • More stable energy levels throughout the day, without sudden drops
    • Better appetite control and less craving for sweets.
    • Support in maintaining a healthy body weight.
    • Protection against the long-term effects of high sugar levels.

Energy for your cells and mitochondrial support

Remember that R-ALA is essential in the mitochondria? That's where the magic happens. R-ALA is a key element (coenzyme) in the process called the Krebs cycle, which is the cell's main energy engine.

By supplementing with pure R-ALA, you supply your "powerhouses" with the highest quality fuel and lubricant. The result? Better energy efficiency. Cells work more efficiently, produce more energy (ATP), and you feel this as greater vitality, reduced fatigue, and better overall performance, both physical and mental.

    R-ALA also protects the liver

Your liver is the body's main filter, constantly working to neutralize toxins, drugs, heavy metals, and alcohol. R-ALA is a powerful ally for the liver.

Thanks to the mentioned ability to raise glutathione levels, R-ALA supports the second phase of liver detoxification, which is the crucial stage of neutralizing and removing harmful substances. It also acts protectively on the liver cells themselves (hepatocytes), shielding them from damage. Moreover, R-ALA shows an ability to chelate, meaning it binds heavy metals (like mercury or arsenic), aiding in their safe removal from the body.

Support for the nervous system and cognitive function

The nervous system is extremely sensitive to oxidative stress and problems with glucose metabolism. Nerve cells consume huge amounts of energy and are largely built of fats, which makes them susceptible to damage.

R-ALA, as an antioxidant working in both fats and water, has the unique ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. This means it can actively protect brain cells from damage.

Furthermore, its effect on glucose metabolism is crucial for nerve health. Many neurological problems, such as diabetic neuropathy (manifested by tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands and feet), result from nerve damage caused by high sugar levels. R-ALA, by improving glycemic control and protecting nerve sheaths, is one of the most frequently recommended supplements for alleviating these ailments. This ensures better nourishment of the nerves and supports their regeneration.
